2009 – European fairytale: UEFA Cup final and DFB Cup victory

After epic matches against AC Milan, Udinese, and Hamburg, Werder Bremen reached the UEFA Cup final. Despite the 2-1 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk, the journey remains unforgettable—the last major international highlight.

Just a few weeks after the UEFA final, the happy ending came: Werder Bremen lifted the trophy at the Olympic Stadium. Mesut Özil scored the decisive goal – their last major title to date.

2010 – DFB Cup final against Bayern Munich

In the 2009/2010 season, Werder Bremen again reached the DFB-Pokal final. On May 15, 2010, they faced FC Bayern Munich at Berlin's Olympic Stadium. Although Werder lost 4-0, reaching the final was a significant achievement and underscored the club's continued presence in the upper echelons of German football.

2013 – Farewell to Thomas Schaaf as the end of an era

After 14 years as head coach, Thomas Schaaf retires in 2013. Under his leadership, the club experienced four Champions League titles, a double, and many magical nights. His departure marks the end of a golden era.

2021 – Relegation to the 2. Bundesliga

On May 22, 2021, the day finally arrived: Werder Bremen lost to Gladbach and were relegated after 41 years in the Bundesliga . A sad low point in the club's history—and yet a new beginning.

2022 – Direct promotion under Ole Werner

Werder Bremen quickly recovered, had a strong season in League 2, and was promoted straight back. A feat of strength with strong morale—and an emotional welcome back to the top flight.
